Jeremy Clarkson, the former host of Top Gear, jokingly proposed that Iran should have chosen him as their new Supreme Leader, highlighting his surprising connection to the country where he is reportedly quite popular. This humorous suggestion arose in response to the news that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been succeeded by his son Mojtaba Khamenei. Jeremy humorously remarked that Mojtaba, who also suffered losses in the recent airstrikes, seems to possess similar characteristics to his predecessor.
In light of these events, Jeremy, a well-known motor journalist, criticized Donald Trump’s actions against Iran as futile. He argued that the Iranian people needed a viable alternative and playfully made a case for why he could have been a suitable leader for the nation.
In a recent column for the Sunday Times, Jeremy humorously stated, “They need someone who’s universally loved over there and the only person I can think of is me. Before the internet was shut down, I used to get loads of fan mail from Iran, more than any other country. Plus, I’ve just checked my birth certificate, and it seems I’m a Methodist, which is as neutral as it gets. I also lack the knowledge to build a nuclear bomb, so I might be the perfect fit.”
He reiterated his view that the new Supreme Leader, whom Trump speculated might be deceased, was akin to the previous leader, making the entire operation seem pointless. Jeremy further argued that historical events like the Blitz did not lead to east Londoners displaying swastikas, and Hamas continued to control Gaza despite significant destruction.
On the other hand, Mojtaba, aged 56, has kept a low profile, never engaging in public speeches or holding government positions. Despite this, leaked documents from WikiLeaks described him as a powerful and influential figure behind the scenes.
Many expect Mojtaba to follow in his father’s strict footsteps, with Israel’s defense minister indicating that any successor to Ali Khamenei would be a clear target for elimination.
Expressing surprise, Jeremy questioned Trump’s lack of foresight in predicting the new leader and humorously speculated, “Who was Trump expecting to take over? Nick Clegg?”
