Jane Fonda recently expressed her only regret from her time working with the late Robert Redford. The iconic duo collaborated on four movies, including the acclaimed Netflix production “Our Souls at Night” in 2017.
During the Oscars tribute to Robert, singer Barbara Streisand, who starred in a single film alongside the actor, delivered a heartfelt speech in Los Angeles. However, Jane, aged 88, was disappointed that the Academy chose Barbara, 83, to honor Robert instead of her, given her deep admiration for the Hollywood legend.
Following Barbara’s tribute, Jane expressed her frustration at only having one regret about working with the talented actor who passed away at 89. On the Ellen DeGeneres show, Jane playfully revealed her desire for their intimate scenes to last longer, wishing for more time in bed with Robert.
Reflecting on their romantic drama “Our Souls At Night,” filmed eight years before Robert’s passing, Jane shared her contentment with the love scene but expressed dissatisfaction at its brevity. She humorously mentioned her frequent on-screen pairing with the esteemed actor, emphasizing, “I’ve spent a lot of time in bed with him.”
Despite Robert’s unfortunate death last year, his legacy lives on in the hearts of many. At the 74th Venice Film Festival in 2017, Jane and Robert appeared together to promote their final movie collaboration. Jane openly admitted to the press her enthusiasm for filming sex scenes with Robert, highlighting their strong on-screen chemistry.
While Barbara paid tribute to Robert at the Oscars, Jane was vocal about her desire to have been the one delivering the speech, given their extensive collaboration. Remembering her time with Robert, Jane fondly recalled always being enamored with him, praising his exceptional qualities and significant contributions to the film industry.
Jane and Robert shared the screen in multiple films, including “The Chase” (1966), “Barefoot in the Park” (1967), “The Electric Horseman” (1979), and “Our Souls at Night” (2017). Meanwhile, Barbara, who co-starred with Robert in “The Way We Were,” honored their partnership by singing a segment from the movie’s Oscar-winning theme song at the ceremony.
Barbara commended Robert as a brilliant and versatile actor, emphasizing their enjoyable dynamic on set. She acknowledged his strong character both on and off-screen, highlighting his impactful influence on independent cinema.
