A woman, feeling disconnected from her family, has made a stunning discovery after 30 years. Sasha Szafranski’s mother always maintained she was not adopted. However, using the genealogy tracker Ancestry.com, Sasha found out the truth about her family.
Living in Coffs Harbour, Australia, Sasha was originally searching for information about her father’s Polish heritage. To her shock, she uncovered that neither her mother nor father are biologically related to her. It was revealed that the wrong embryo was implanted into her mother during her last IVF procedure.
Initially dismissing it as a website error, Sasha later found out she had a previously unknown sister and an aunt in her town. Sasha reached out to her aunt online to inquire if she and her twin sister were conceived through IVF.
Born in 1995 after her mother’s IVF treatment at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Sasha and her sister were supposed to be born to a different couple due to the mix-up. Despite the revelation, Sasha still considers Penelope her mother.
Sasha’s biological parents subsequently had another daughter, who is Sasha’s biological sister. Coincidentally, both families were undergoing IVF treatment at the same hospital and lived in Coffs Harbour.
After meeting her biological family, Sasha described the experience as familiar yet new. Legal action is being pursued by both families to uncover the truth. The hospital’s fertility clinic was operated by North Shore A.R.T until it was taken over by a company now part of Virtus Health, which has denied responsibility for the incident.
Virtus Health, in a statement to news.com, clarified that they were not involved in the incident in 1995. The Mirror has contacted Virtus Health for further comments.
