“Iran Launches Missiles at Diego Garcia Military Base”

Iran has reportedly launched two intermediate-range ballistic missiles targeting Diego Garcia, a joint military base in the Indian Ocean shared by the United States and the United Kingdom. This action by Iran is seen as an attempt to expand the conflict beyond the Middle East. The United States and Israel had previously conducted strikes in Iran, leading to retaliatory actions across the Middle East, escalating tensions in the region.

In response to the escalating situation, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer granted the US permission to target Iranian missile sites in the Strait of Hormuz from UK bases. This decision marks a shift in the UK’s policy, as British ministers had initially restricted the use of UK bases for strikes against missile sites threatening British interests in the Middle East.

Fortunately, neither of the missiles fired at Diego Garcia hit the base. One missile failed mid-flight, while the other was intercepted by a US warship. The interception outcome remains unclear. This incident signifies Iran’s first operational use of intermediate-range ballistic missiles, according to reports.

The developments highlight the growing tensions in the region and the strategic importance of Diego Garcia in military operations.
