“Heroic 12-Year-Old Attacked Defending Friend”

A 12-year-old boy sustained injuries to his face, including the need for stitches, a swollen jaw, and eye socket, following an assault by a group of individuals. Connor McGowan intervened to protect his female friend from the gang’s aggression, leading to him being attacked with a bottle and threatened with a knife.

The incident occurred near Dundee’s High Street on Friday evening, resulting in cuts on Connor’s legs and head in addition to his facial injuries. According to his mother, Lori Roache, Connor and his two friends were targeted by approximately 20 youths while heading home, prompting Connor to defend his friend before the situation escalated.

Describing the attackers as behaving like “a pack of animals,” Lori expressed relief that her son survived the assault, which left him severely injured. The group targeted Connor, with one individual brandishing a knife at him and another striking him with a bottle, followed by a vicious physical attack that could have had fatal consequences.

Missing his expected return time due to a dead phone battery, Connor’s friends informed Lori of the incident, leading her to rush to Dundee to take him to Ninewells Hospital for treatment. Though discharged after receiving medical care, Connor remains deeply affected by the traumatic event.

Lori recounted her distress upon hearing about the assault and the harrowing drive to the hospital, emphasizing the seriousness of the attack and its lasting impact on Connor. Concerned for her son’s safety, she expressed fear about allowing him outside and called for the perpetrators to be apprehended before causing further harm.

Police Scotland has initiated an investigation into the assault, responding to a report of the incident involving the youths near the High Street in Dundee. The authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify and locate those responsible for the attack, which left Connor and his friends injured.
