Niall Horan recently shared details about his last encounter with his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, just before his unfortunate passing. The two met up in Buenos Aires on October 9, 2024, where Niall was performing. Liam tragically fell from a third-floor hotel balcony on October 16.
Liam’s trip to Buenos Aires was primarily to renew his US visa, but he made time to attend Niall’s concert, allowing the friends to catch up post-show. Niall, speaking to GQ Hype, fondly recalled their meeting, mentioning, “It was great. Seemed in good form and we had a good laugh, good reminisce.”
The news of Liam’s sudden death reached Niall while he was at home, watching TV in bed. Initially in disbelief, he expressed his shock, sadness, and anger at the unexpected loss of someone he had recently seen.
Attending Liam’s funeral in Buckinghamshire alongside their bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson in November 2024, Niall shared that he retreated from the public eye for a period to mourn in private.
Reflecting on their shared history, Niall fondly remembered their time together, from their early days on The X Factor to the exhilarating moments racing around arena corridors on Segways.
In a separate instance, Harry Styles also addressed Liam’s passing, emphasizing the challenge of losing a close friend who shared similar qualities. He highlighted the importance of honoring departed friends by living life to the fullest.
