The FCDO has issued guidance for British citizens after a tragic incident in a popular vacation destination. Recently, an Italian woman named Cristina Colturi, 28, lost her life in Tenerife while partaking in a tandem paragliding experience near La Enramada, close to a well-known beach in Costa Adeje. Despite swift emergency response, Cristina went into cardiac arrest and, despite resuscitation efforts at the scene and subsequent hospitalization at Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital in Santa Cruz, she passed away two days later.
According to the FCDO, individuals have faced fatal or severe injuries during paragliding activities. They advise ensuring proper training and guidance before engaging in such sports. It is also recommended to maintain a safe distance from potential landing areas, as paragliding carries inherent risks of serious harm or fatality.
Cristina, a Milan native who had relocated to Tenerife a year ago, had scheduled the paragliding excursion as a Christmas gift. Her family consented to organ donation and arranged for her burial on the island, as per her wishes. The paragliding instructor involved in the accident sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention at South Tenerife Hospital. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.
In related news, the FCDO has updated travel advice for the USA, including additional information on entry requirements and potential travel disruptions. The recent guidance covers American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and United States Virgin Islands. Travelers are urged to ensure they possess the appropriate approvals, such as a valid US visa or Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA), to avoid immigration issues. Strict enforcement of entry rules is emphasized, with the possibility of detention, refusal of entry, or deportation for non-compliance.
It is highlighted that possessing a valid ESTA or visa does not guarantee entry into the US, as authorities reserve the right to deny access based on various factors. Travel conditions to the US may change without prior notice.
