A man, Sean Jefferson, age 35, was recently convicted of the murder of his five-week-old daughter, Darcy, who tragically suffered severe injuries including fractures to both legs, a devastating brain injury, and 47 rib fractures due to repeated assaults before her death on March 29, 2022. The verdict was reached at Stafford Crown Court where Jefferson was found guilty of murder and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Following the trial, body-cam footage capturing the arrest of Jefferson and Amy Leigh Clark, Darcy’s mother, has been released. In the video, Jefferson can be heard expressing shock with an expletive upon his arrest. Clark, residing in Lichfield, Staffordshire, was also convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child and causing serious harm to a child after the lengthy trial.
During the arrest, Jefferson complained about the tightness of his handcuffs, demanding that they be loosened. He became confrontational with the officers, insisting on their badge numbers and threatening to file complaints against them for what he perceived as mistreatment. Despite efforts to calm him down, Jefferson continued to protest the handcuffing process.
The tragic incident unfolded when Darcy collapsed at home on Mother’s Day in 2022, leading to her passing away in the hospital two days later. Following an investigation, it was revealed that Darcy had been subjected to severe physical abuse during her short life. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald of Staffordshire Police described the case as profoundly distressing, emphasizing that Darcy deserved love and care from her parents.
Jefferson and Clark are awaiting sentencing at Stafford Crown Court, with a date yet to be determined.
