“Family Struggles to Bring Ill Relative Home from Thailand”

A family is facing a distressing situation as they strive to bring back their seriously ill relative from Thailand. Marie Peacock, hailing from Eston, deteriorated rapidly only five days after arriving in the country with her husband Ray. Despite experiencing discomfort like a stiff neck, she had prepared for her departure on February 24. Unfortunately, Ray discovered her unresponsive the next morning as she had slipped into a coma.

Marie was rushed to Bangkok Hospital in Koh Samui where doctors diagnosed her with bacterial meningitis, leading to brain damage. The family made the difficult decision to sign a ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ order as they believed Marie wouldn’t want to live in such a condition. Although still critically unwell, recent updates show that her condition has stabilized, and the hospital has cleared her for air travel.

Despite having extensive insurance coverage from Barclays Bank and Aviva, the family is struggling to secure funds for a medical flight back to the UK for further treatment. Both insurers allegedly declined to cover the cost. Marie’s niece expressed their frustration and desire to bring her back home for additional medical evaluations.

Marie’s family emphasized their determination to fight for her return, underlining their belief that she is still fighting for her life. They expressed disappointment after receiving conflicting opinions from the insurance doctors regarding her fitness to fly back home. Marie’s daughters have flown to Thailand to support their parents during this challenging time.

Described as a vibrant and healthy individual, Marie was actively involved in her community in Eston. Her family is enduring immense emotional turmoil as they navigate the complexities of her medical condition and the challenges of repatriation. They are determined to seek justice and ensure Marie receives the care she needs.
