A man has been given a 26-year prison term for fatally stabbing his ex-wife and burying her in his backyard. Alireza Askari murdered his estranged wife, Paria Veisi, shortly after their breakup, as revealed in court.
The body of 37-year-old Ms. Veisi was found in a makeshift grave in Askari’s Cardiff residence following her tragic stabbing to the neck and upper chest. The discovery was made after concerned family members reported her missing, leading to the grim revelation four days after she was last seen leaving work.
Initially, Askari, 42, admitted to manslaughter and obstructing a lawful burial, later confessing to the murder. Additionally, his aunt, Maryam Delavary, 48, pleaded guilty to tampering with justice. Delavary assisted Askari in cleaning the crime scene and burying the body in the garden.
Both perpetrators concealed Ms. Veisi’s body under soil and newly planted flowers, along with concrete slabs, in the garden. Witnesses near the scene reported hearing a scream during the time of the murder, which occurred after Ms. Veisi’s arrival at Askari’s residence following a phone call with him.
The court revealed that there were no defensive wounds on Ms. Veisi’s body, indicating that she was caught off guard by the attack. Askari later pretended to be Ms. Veisi, sending messages from her phone and moving her car to mislead others.
Despite arguments of mental illness as a contributing factor, the judge sentenced Askari to a minimum of 26 years in prison, while Delavary received a 5-year, 6-month sentence. The judge highlighted Delavary’s lies and manipulative behavior, emphasizing her involvement in the cover-up.
This case sheds light on a tragic incident that ended in a severe punishment for the offenders.
