During an interview on the US podcast Friends Keep Secrets, Ed shared the emotional toll of that period, describing it as one of the worst weeks of his life. He expressed the difficulty of dealing with Cherry’s health issues, noting that she underwent successful surgery to remove the tumor after giving birth to their second child.
Reflecting on the series of events, Ed mentioned the birth of their second baby Jupiter in May 2022 and the release of his album Subtract, which contained songs inspired by his experiences during that challenging time. He also addressed the plagiarism accusations in court, emphasizing the negative impact such claims have on the songwriting industry.
In a documentary titled The Sum of It All, Ed opened up about the intense emotions he felt during Cherry’s diagnosis and how he channeled his feelings into songwriting. Cherry also shared how Ed coped by writing music as a way to express his emotions.
