Multiple fatalities and numerous injuries have occurred following a devastating fire that erupted on a bus. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the location where the entire postal bus was engulfed in flames in Kerzers, Fribourg, Switzerland. Confirming the tragic incident, local authorities reported six fatalities and at least five individuals sustaining injuries.
Witnesses described the flames reaching significant heights, creating a massive plume of smoke visible for miles around. Upon the fire department’s arrival, only the charred remains of the postal van were left at the scene. An investigation has been initiated into the incident amid reports suggesting a potential self-immolation by an individual.
A spokesperson for the Freiburg police mentioned that the investigation would persist throughout the night. The authorities suspect the fire may have been deliberately set and are looking into reports of an individual dousing themselves with gasoline, although this has not been officially confirmed yet.
The bus was en route from Düdingen to Kerzers when the fire erupted just before its final stop. Among the injured, three were transported to a hospital while the remaining two received on-site medical attention. The emergency response included nine ambulances and an air ambulance, alongside fire engines present at the cordoned-off area.
Regarding the identity of any potential perpetrator involved in the incident, the police declined to provide details, stating that no information would be disclosed at the present time.
