“British Tourists Warned Against Filming UAE Missile Strikes”

The British embassy in the United Arab Emirates has cautioned British citizens about the potential consequences of recording Iranian missiles and drones flying over the popular tourist destination. Dubai, a region in the UAE, issued a stern warning following the arrest of a British tourist for allegedly filming attacks during his vacation, as reported by Detained in Dubai. The area has experienced retaliatory strikes from Iran in response to military actions by the US and Israel that resulted in the death of the supreme leader on February 28.

Significant locations in the city, including the international airport, a hotel, and luxury high-rises, have been targeted by Iranian strikes. Despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the UAE has intensified efforts to prevent individuals from documenting or sharing information about these incidents.

The British Embassy in the UAE recently posted a notice stating that individuals, regardless of nationality, could face fines, imprisonment, or deportation for photographing, publicizing, or distributing images of incident sites, projectile damage, government buildings, or diplomatic missions. Authorities in the UAE have issued multiple alerts regarding the capturing, sharing, or publishing of images and videos depicting damage caused by projectiles or shrapnel.

Furthermore, a legal organization, Detained in Dubai, disclosed that a 60-year-old man from London was among 21 individuals accused under cyber-crime laws due to their involvement in videos and social media posts related to recent missile strikes. If found guilty, the penalty could entail up to two years of imprisonment. Radha Stirling, the group’s CEO, emphasized that charges could be brought against individuals for simply resharing or commenting on existing online content, highlighting the strict cybercrime laws in the UAE.

The Foreign Office has confirmed engagement with local authorities following the detention of a British man in the UAE.
