British Publishing Heir and Wife Killed in Guatemala Plane Crash

A tragic plane crash in San Marcos, Guatemala, resulted in the deaths of a British publishing heir and his pregnant wife, along with other passengers including a doctor and a footballer. Harald Undrum, 53, a descendant of the Schibsted family who owns a renowned media group in Norway, was expecting a child with his 26-year-old wife, Judith Mazariegos, at the time of the accident.

The group was aboard a private aircraft that crashed in a remote area of Esquipulas Palo Gordo municipality. Reports indicated that three individuals perished at the scene, with another succumbing to injuries at the hospital. The couple’s tragic demise was confirmed by Judith’s family to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet. She was six months pregnant during the fateful incident.

Residents in Villa Hermosa village heard a loud noise emanating from a nearby mountainous region. The fire service, ASONBOMD, subsequently located the wreckage of a small plane identified by its registration as TG-SCO. The aircraft involved in the crash, a Cessna 182 according to civil air authorities and La Aurora International airport, is now under investigation to determine the cause of the sudden descent leading to the crash.

The purpose of Mr. Undrum and the other passengers’ presence in Guatemala remains unclear, whether for leisure or business. Originally from London, Mr. Undrum was adopted into the affluent Schibsted family of Norway. Following legal issues in 2005 related to a substantial loan, he moved to Spain with his wife and children, working as a lorry driver. Despite facing financial challenges and bankruptcy in 2025, Mr. Undrum was reported to have significant funds in his possession. Additionally, he was under investigation by Norwegian tax authorities, resulting in asset seizures.
