A British married couple tragically drowned on the Australian coast while visiting relatives.
The couple, both in their 60s, were immersed in the waters of the NSW South Coast on Wednesday, March 11, when the devastating incident occurred.
Emergency services responded to Shellharbour Beach at Shell Cove, approximately two hours south of Sydney, after receiving reports of two swimmers in distress.
Beachgoers managed to bring a 66-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman ashore, where off-duty nurses performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
Despite efforts by NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man and woman could not be revived and passed away at the scene.
Family members of the couple were present during the incident, as confirmed by authorities.
NSW Police praised the assistance provided by two off-duty female nurses and a young male individual in aiding the couple.
A police spokesperson expressed condolences, stating, “This is a tragic event, and our thoughts are with the family.”
A formal report will be compiled for the coroner to investigate the situation.
