British Boohoo Employee Killed in Texas; Mom Urges Case Review

The mother of a British graduate who was fatally shot by her father during a visit to his Texas residence is urging US investigators to reconsider the case. Jane Coates, aged 49 and from Warrington, Cheshire, contends that authorities overlooked crucial evidence of negligence following the death of her daughter Lucy on January 10, 2025.

Lucy, a Boohoo employee, traveled with her boyfriend to stay with her father, Kris Harrison, in Prosper, Texas. The tragic incident occurred when Harrison, under the influence of alcohol, shot Lucy in the heart after a dispute over Donald Trump. Despite suspicions of manslaughter, Harrison was not charged as a grand jury declined to pursue indictments.

Coates believes that Harrison’s actions, fueled by alcohol, were reckless rather than intentional. This sentiment aligns with the assessment made by a UK coroner recently. Describing Lucy’s vibrant personality, Coates recalled her infectious laughter and emotional depth.

Before the fatal encounter, Lucy had expressed discomfort with her father’s possession of a gun. A heated argument ensued between Lucy and Harrison about Donald Trump on the day they were scheduled to return to the UK. The dispute escalated, leading to the tragic shooting that claimed Lucy’s life.

Witnesses recounted the chaotic moments following the gunshot, with Harrison’s initial claim that the shooting was accidental. Despite contradictory statements and evidence of alcohol consumption, Harrison was not arrested following the incident. The case was reviewed by a grand jury, which did not find grounds for indictment.

The tragedy has left Jane Coates and her family seeking closure and accountability. They hope that the findings regarding Harrison’s irresponsible behavior while intoxicated could prompt a fresh investigation by US authorities. The Prosper Police Department declined to comment on the matter, and Harrison did not respond to requests for input from the media.
