British Airways Halts Middle East Rescue Flights

A major airline has issued an update on its rescue operations in the Middle East amidst the ongoing conflict. Thousands of British citizens were left stranded in the region due to the conflict outbreak. British Airways has decided to halt its daily rescue flights from Muscat due to decreased demand. Additionally, flights to other destinations in the region will remain suspended until later this month due to the uncertain situation and airspace instability in the Middle East.

The airline has canceled flights to and from Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, and Tel Aviv until later this month, and to and from Abu Dhabi until later this year. The situation is continuously monitored, and customers are being provided with various options. Limited seats are available on repatriation flights from Oman to London Heathrow on March 11 and 12 for customers with existing bookings. After these dates, flights will be paused due to reduced demand but will be regularly reviewed.

The Foreign Office recently reported that 37,000 stranded individuals have returned to the UK. The UK government has arranged charter flights from Oman and Dubai, with more planned based on the evolving situation. On Sunday, 30 flights departed from the region transporting over 7,000 British nationals to the UK, marking the highest daily influx since the crisis began. The government advises British nationals to follow travel advice and local instructions due to the volatile situation.

Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the UK’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens, acknowledging the concerns of those worried about friends and family in the affected areas. He highlighted the support provided on the ground, government-operated flights for repatriation, and the efforts of the armed forces in safeguarding allies and national interests.
