Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire behind Facebook, has taken measures to safeguard himself in the event of future conflicts by establishing a massive doomsday bunker in Hawaii. Amid rising global tensions and speculation that the wealthy are bracing for a doomsday scenario, YouTuber Christina Randall disclosed specifics about Zuckerberg’s underground shelter. Joining other affluent individuals, Zuckerberg is allocating a portion of his wealth to construct a refuge away from society should a catastrophic event unfold.
Reportedly, Zuckerberg’s bunker, one of around 15 similar projects by billionaires worldwide, is part of a trend among the elite to seek protection from potential apocalyptic circumstances. The bunker, situated at Koolau Ranch on Kauai, the oldest and smallest Hawaiian island, is poised to become a lavish private structure with features akin to nuclear bomb shelters for shielding against radiation.
The elaborate project encompasses a vast estate with multiple mansions, a village, and a 5,000-square-foot underground bunker. Spanning 110 acres of former sugar plantation land, the development supplements Zuckerberg’s existing 1,300-acre luxury estate valued at $100 million. The estimated $270 million enterprise aims to elevate their Hawaiian retreat into a more extravagant haven.
Randall highlighted the substantial costs associated with such shelters, noting that Zuckerberg’s undertaking alone is projected to exceed $270 million. The estate will include two main mansions spanning a total of 57,000 square feet, equipped with luxurious amenities like 30 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, conference facilities, an industrial kitchen, and elevators. Designed for self-sufficiency, the estate boasts a water reservoir, farming operations, and livestock to produce food. The property is enclosed by a stone wall for privacy and features an underground tunnel network connecting the mansions, serving as a shelter with living quarters and essential facilities.
Despite the luxurious features, the development has faced criticism, with some accusing Zuckerberg of “colonizing Hawaii” due to concerns of mistreatment of indigenous people and land ownership disputes. Additionally, in 2022, a wrongful death claim was filed by the relatives of a security officer who suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty at Zuckerberg’s estate.
