BBC Radio 1 Host Dave Jamieson Passes Away

A beloved BBC Radio 1 presenter has sadly passed away while in Spain, sparking an outpouring of tributes. The late Dave Jamieson, whose broadcasting journey started in hospital radio, was in Spain at the time of his death. At present, no further details surrounding his passing have been disclosed.

Boom Radio, where Jamieson had been a significant presence for five years, confirmed the heartbreaking news. Initially part of the Saturday breakfast show team, he later transitioned to hosting on Sundays. The station expressed their deep sorrow, stating, “He’s been a cherished member of the team for five years, starting with the Saturday breakfast show before moving to Sundays. He will be greatly missed.”

Beginning his career in his teenage years, the broadcaster made his mark on local BBC radio during its early days, notably in Leicester. Subsequently, he ventured into the Radio 1 Club and also made appearances on BBC Scotland. His journey led him to Birmingham’s BRMB, followed by contributions to the establishment of Radio Clyde in Glasgow and Mercia Sound in Coventry.

Additionally, Dave was associated with Nerja Gold, a station that also mourned his loss. The station expressed their grief, stating, “It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of our friend and colleague Dave Jamieson. After a lifetime of broadcasting across the UK, Dave settled in Nerja, where he continued his radio work on various local stations, including Nerja Gold Radio and Boom Radio in the UK. Dave will be dearly missed by all the regulars at his Tuesday quizzes at Potters Bar.”

Friends and admirers took to social media to pay tribute to Dave, with former colleague Paul Savory sharing his heartfelt condolences. Another individual reminisced, “Dave was a radio icon, commencing his career in hospital radio in Edinburgh. I have fond memories of collaborating with him during our time at Heriot-Watt Student Television. Rest in Peace, my friend.”
