BBC Presenter Seema Jaswal Recounts Meningitis Battle

Seema Jaswal has shared her experience of battling meningitis at 16 years old, which resulted in her falling into a coma, following a recent meningitis outbreak in Kent. The 41-year-old, known for her role in presenting BBC’s snooker coverage, faced a severe case of meningitis B during her teenage years.

After being in a coma and her parents being prepared for the worst, Jaswal made a full recovery and is now advocating for meningitis awareness and urging the government to enforce mandatory vaccinations.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Jaswal expressed her gratitude for a second chance at life following the harrowing experience. She spent time in the hospital, losing weight and feeling drained, but her determination to return to normalcy prevailed.

Jaswal, who was studying for her A-Levels at the time, initially experienced a headache, which escalated to the point where her mother suspected meningitis and sought medical help. Despite the initial misdiagnosis of flu, her sensitivity to light prompted her mother to call an ambulance.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Jaswal mentioned being unconscious for 24 to 48 hours and credited her mother for swift action that potentially saved her life. She emphasized the importance of trusting one’s instincts and seeking medical attention promptly, especially when symptoms deviate from common illnesses like colds or flu.

According to the NHS, meningitis symptoms include severe headaches, high fever, and a stiff neck. Stay informed and prioritize your health by being vigilant about any unusual symptoms.
