McDonald’s app users should take advantage of current pricing before March 17 when prices for popular items like the Big Mac and Chicken McSandwich will increase. Customers are advised to redeem their rewards points soon to save money as some menu prices are set to go up. The existing tiered rewards system will be revised in a few days, affecting how customers earn and use points through the McDonald’s app.
Customers scanning their app at checkout or placing orders through their smartphones at McDonald’s earn points in a digital wallet which can be exchanged for various menu items such as burgers, nuggets, desserts, and drinks. The UK McDonald’s app has seen over 14 million downloads and with the change in rewards system, customers can collect one point for every penny spent at participating outlets and earn bonus points by utilizing app-exclusive deals.
Starting from March 17, the rewards scheme will require additional points for certain items, with prices set to increase. This adjustment is attributed to the rising costs of food and supplies, according to a McDonald’s spokesperson. Alongside the rewards update, a menu refresh will introduce new items including the limited-edition Mini Eggs Frappe and the UK debut of the McGriddle breakfast sandwich.
The new rewards tiers will have revised point requirements, affecting the cost in pounds for each tier. The Vegetable Deluxe, previously part of Tier Two, was removed from the menu earlier this year along with other meat-free options. Customers will also have the option to donate points to charitable organizations like Children in Need, Fareshare, and Ronald McDonald House Charity in every tier.
The donation rates will be adjusted from March 17, with a 2,000-point donation translating to a £2 donation compared to the current £1.50 donation from Tier One. Customers are encouraged to stay informed about the changes through the McDonald’s app and take advantage of the rewards program before the modifications take effect.
