Parks Canada has decided to close a section of the Ä’äy Chù Valley within Kluane National Park and Reserve near Haines Junction, Yukon following an incident where a visitor was attacked by a wolf, resulting in minor injuries. This closure affects various popular hiking trails located in the northern portion of the park, such as Bullion Plateau, Sheep Creek, Shepherd’s Knoll, Ä’äy Chù East, and Ä’äy Chù West.
Reports received by park staff indicated that a young, solitary wolf was displaying bold behavior, which included trailing people and interacting with personal belongings. Parks Canada issued a bulletin on Friday detailing these incidents. Presently, resource conservation personnel are evaluating the situation as of Sunday.
The federal agency emphasized that conflicts between humans and wolves are exceedingly uncommon. Visitors are encouraged to contact the Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre, situated within the Da Kų Cultural Centre, at 867-634-5134 to report any wildlife sightings.
