“Brooke Henderson Eyes Third Home Victory at CPKC Women’s Open”

Brooke Henderson embraces the pressure of playing in Canada’s LPGA event, where she has previously triumphed twice. The Canadian golfer has demonstrated in past tournaments that the heightened scrutiny from her home country’s fans does not weigh her down but rather fuels her performance.

“This week is particularly intense and holds a special place for me,” Henderson expressed. “I have managed to draw energy and positivity from the fans who come out to support me. The love and supportive atmosphere have been instrumental in my success over the years, making it truly thrilling.”

Henderson, hailing from Smiths Falls, Ontario, aims to secure a third win in her home competition, commencing this Thursday at the Royal Mayfair Club in Edmonton. Reflecting on her previous victories, Henderson remarked, “Winning in 2018 was a career highlight and a dream come true. Reliving that last year, especially with my sister by my side, added immense significance to the moment.”

Competing in the $2.75 million CPKC Women’s Open are six of the top 10 global golfers, with Henderson ranked 11th among the 14 from the top 25.

The most successful Canadian golfer with 14 tour wins, Henderson recently achieved top-three finishes in the Women’s PGA Championship and the Evian Championship. She expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, “Securing top positions in consecutive major tournaments this summer signaled a return to my previous form, boosting my confidence and setting a positive tone for the upcoming competitions.”

Apart from her golfing achievements, Henderson’s personal life has also seen milestones, including becoming an aunt and getting engaged to Ricky Castro, a pitching prospect for the Minnesota Twins. These off-course developments have contributed to her on-course success by fostering a sense of relaxation and freedom crucial for golfers.

Henderson leads a group of 15 Canadians among the 156 professionals and amateurs participating in the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. The tournament, in its 52nd edition since 1973, returns to Edmonton for the fourth time and the Royal Mayfair for the third time, presenting an opportunity for Henderson and other competitors to strive for victory.

Lydia Ko, a previous three-time winner of the Canadian tournament, is set to compete for a potential fourth win, aiming to join Pat Bradley and Meg Mallon as the only women to secure three victories in the tournament’s history. Ko emphasized the significance of the tournament in her career, citing its impact on her preparation for winning an Olympic gold medal in Paris.

The weather forecast for the tournament in Edmonton predicts a mix of sunshine and clouds, with possible showers on Saturday night. Despite the course being in good condition, players are bracing for mosquito attacks due to the recent rain. Henderson and Ko shared their strategies for dealing with mosquitoes, expecting the insect presence to be a factor during the competition.

In terms of attendance, the tournament record is held by Calgary, with 73,000 spectators in 2024 at Earl Grey Golf Club.
