In Russia, authorities are investigating a circus tiger that escaped during a performance and jumped into the crowd in Rostov-on-Don. The incident, captured on video, showed the tiger taking advantage of a malfunction that caused a safety net to lower, allowing it to leap into the audience.
The audience reacted with shock as the tiger roamed freely among them, prompting some to evacuate the area while others stayed behind, capturing the scene on their phones. Witnesses described a chaotic moment as the tiger broke free, causing panic among spectators, especially children.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the tiger was quickly recaptured near the tent. The circus director attributed the incident to an employee error and a coincidence, emphasizing that the tame tigers were well-trained and posed no direct threat to the audience.
Following the incident, Russia’s federal Investigative Committee initiated a probe to assess potential safety violations. Despite stricter welfare laws leading to bans on captive animals in many Western countries, Russian circuses continue to feature various animals in their performances, including bears, elephants, and Siberian tigers.
