A candidate supported by Nigel Farage’s Reform party has been found promoting a Covid conspiracy theory and making derogatory remarks about the late Queen. Emma Clatworthy, a Senedd candidate for Reform in south Wales, referred to the Queen as a “fraud” and suggested she should be ousted due to her alleged German ancestry. Clatworthy also made baseless claims denying the transmission of viruses and invoked anti-semitic references to the Rothschild family to support her arguments.
Reform has faced controversy in Wales, with another candidate resigning after a photo surfaced showing him appearing to make a Nazi salute. Clatworthy’s comments, revealed in Telegram posts by Hope Not Hate, criticized the government and advocated for the overthrow of the monarchy. She also expressed skepticism about viruses and vaccines, dismissing established scientific knowledge.
In response to the revelations, Joe Mulhall, Director of Research at Hope Not Hate, expressed concern over Clatworthy’s dissemination of dangerous conspiracy theories online. Clatworthy, who claims to have a background in integrative health and functional medicine, defended her past remarks as part of an exploration of diverse ideas online, stating that she has since distanced herself from those views. Reform UK declined to provide a comment on the matter.
