“Prince Harry’s Security Debate Sparks Controversy”

A close associate of Prince Harry has criticized the decision to not provide him with automatic police protection in the UK, calling it ‘spiteful’. Alex Rayner, who attended a charity expedition to the North Pole with the Duke of Sussex and maintains contact with him, argued that other royals receive security despite having lesser roles.

When Prince Harry and Meghan left the UK after stepping down as working royals, Harry lost his automatic police protection in the country. Following a legal battle, it was revealed that Harry had requested a risk assessment for security from the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec).

Alex Rayner expressed his disapproval to the Daily Mail, highlighting Harry’s military service in Afghanistan and questioning why he should have to fund his security privately when other royals with lesser engagements receive protection. Reports earlier indicated that Harry was close to having his armed police protection reinstated for visits to the UK.

However, there are conflicting opinions within Ravec, with some senior officials expressing concerns about public backlash and taxpayer funding for Harry’s security. While no final decision has been made, sources suggest a divide in viewpoints regarding the necessity of police protection for Harry.

During his previous legal battle, Prince Harry emphasized the security risks in the UK, making it unsafe for him to bring his family back. He expressed disappointment with the establishment’s decisions and his inability to return to the UK with his wife and children. Currently, Harry must inform the Metropolitan Police before traveling to the UK for security assessments on a case-by-case basis.

The Home Office spokesperson reiterated the government’s policy of not disclosing specific security arrangements to maintain integrity and individual safety.
