Bruno Guimaraes Reveals Mumps Diagnosis, Misses Tyne-Wear Derby

Bruno Guimaraes has revealed the reason for his absence during the Tyne-Wear derby clash between Newcastle and Sunderland. The Brazilian midfielder missed the game due to a case of mumps, which he discovered after returning from Barcelona. Guimaraes shared on his Instagram stories that he noticed swelling on his face, initially thinking it was an allergic reaction before being diagnosed with mumps. He is currently in isolation for five days and has to refrain from physical activities until fully recovered.

Newcastle initially took the lead in the derby through Anthony Gordon’s goal, but Sunderland turned the game around in the second half with goals from Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey, securing a 2-1 victory. Guimaraes, who has been out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury in February, was aiming to return to the pitch with the Brazil squad against Crystal Palace. However, his recovery timeline may be affected by his recent diagnosis and isolation period.

Mumps is a viral infection that affects the salivary glands, causing swelling and other symptoms like fever and muscle aches. While most people recover from mumps within two weeks, complications can arise. Despite recent transfer rumors linking Guimaraes to Manchester United, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe dismissed them, emphasizing the player’s commitment to the team and his focus on returning to full fitness.
