Donald Trump’s golf course in Scotland capitalized on the turmoil caused by the US President’s conflict in Iran to attract more business, according to recent revelations. Correspondence obtained by the Mirror shows that employees at Trump’s Turnberry resort in Ayrshire reached out to golf tour operators, offering them the opportunity to transfer trips originally planned for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which were disrupted by the war, to Trump’s own resort.
In an email to members of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), a business development manager for Trump Turnberry acknowledged the potential impact of recent events in the Middle East on UAE bookings and proposed redirecting tours to Turnberry instead.
The email highlighted a surge in last-minute bookings for golf and accommodations at Turnberry due to travel changes and expressed willingness to assist with any interest in a “stay and play” option. The message also extended an invitation for further discussion to explore ways to provide support.
The Trump Organization, which manages the course, was approached by the Mirror for comment. Trump personally visited Turnberry last year and conducted meetings with Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen at the resort’s hotel.
Following Trump’s military actions against Iran, countries like the UAE are facing the threat of retaliatory strikes, leading to significant travel disruptions in the region that are yet to be resolved.
During recent statements, Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz or face additional attacks, including targeting key power plants. The specific power plants mentioned by Trump for potential strikes included the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the Damavand natural gas plant near Tehran, Iran’s capital.
