“British Woman Released from Dubai Jail After Year in Custody”

A young British woman who worked as a recruitment consultant in Dubai was recently able to return home to the UK after spending a year in custody on drug-related charges. Isabella Daggett, 22, originally from Leeds, was arrested shortly after relocating from Yorkshire to the UAE for a new job. Her family maintains that she was wrongly apprehended and had no involvement with drugs.

Isabella was detained in March last year, but the specific charges against her were not disclosed by UAE authorities, leaving her family in the dark about the allegations. Recently, a family friend disclosed that she has been released and safely returned home. The friend expressed relief, mentioning the challenges Isabella faced, including a hefty visa overstay fine after the charges were dropped in January.

Isabella’s grandmother previously shared concerns about her harsh treatment in prison, highlighting the lack of basic amenities such as showers and clean clothes. Drug offenses in Dubai are severely punished, with even minor possession leading to lengthy sentences.

The case underscores the strict legal consequences in Dubai for drug-related offenses, serving as a cautionary tale for expatriates and visitors to the region.
