“Community Mourns Loss of Talented Footballer Junior Dean”

Tributes are being paid to a talented young footballer who tragically lost his life in a flat fire. Known as Junior Dean, Tommy Ballay-Dean, 16, passed away in a first-floor flat fire on Cooper’s Road in Southwark, south London. Another teenage boy escaped the fire and was hospitalized before firefighters arrived on the scene.

An online fundraiser on GoFundMe has been initiated to assist Junior’s family with funeral expenses. Described as the “heart and soul of Southwark Residents” and a valued member of the Southwark community, Junior was known for his strong faith and leadership qualities. The fundraiser has already raised over £35,000 in just two days.

Hudayfi Awale, a former football coach of Junior, expressed his tribute on social media, highlighting Junior’s exceptional character and football skills. Quadrant Performance Academy announced a tournament in Junior’s honor, scheduled for April 11, with all proceeds aimed at supporting his family.

The London Fire Brigade responded to the fire swiftly, dispatching crews from multiple fire stations to tackle the blaze in the six-storey building adjacent to Old Kent Road Fire Station. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the LFB’s Fire Investigation Unit and the Metropolitan Police.
