Bob Mortimer, a participant in Prime Video’s Last One Laughing, recently revealed a harrowing health scare that confined him to his home. The 66-year-old comedian underwent a triple heart bypass surgery in 2015, with doctors discovering a significant blockage in 95% of his arteries, putting him at high risk of a heart attack during his performances alongside Vic Reeves.
Reflecting on his health struggles more than a decade later, Mortimer credited his Gone Fishing co-star, Paul Whitehouse, for playing a crucial role in his recovery journey. During a recent radio show appearance, Mortimer shared that Led Zeppelin’s song, Ramble On, became a symbol of celebration for their successful show, Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing.
Mortimer expressed that joining the program was not only a significant achievement in his later life but also marked a turning point in his personal growth. Recalling his post-surgery period, Mortimer shared how Whitehouse’s persistence in getting him out of the house for a fishing trip was instrumental in his first outing after the surgery, leading to the inception of their show.
Despite the success of Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing since its debut on BBC Two in 2018, Mortimer faced additional health challenges, including relying on a wheelchair due to mobility issues during filming in 2024. He mentioned his efforts to regain strength and muscle post-surgery, highlighting his ongoing battle with shingles that affected his leg muscles.
Mortimer’s candid discussions about his health battles offer insight into his resilience and determination. Last One Laughing is now available for streaming on Prime Video for viewers to enjoy the latest series.
