Ricky Hatton’s Death Ruled a Mystery: Coroner Expresses Doubts

Ricky Hatton’s grieving family embraced in court as a coroner expressed doubts about his intention to commit suicide. The inquest revealed that the former boxing champion was discovered hanged in his £1.7 million residence on September 14 last year.

Despite finding Hatton’s body in an intoxicated state with an open bottle and a partially consumed glass of wine nearby, the coroner, Alison Mutch, highlighted the absence of a suicide note. She also noted the presence of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), commonly found in boxers, as microscopic evidence.

Mutch delivered a narrative verdict at the South Manchester coroner’s court, stating that there was no conclusive evidence of Hatton planning to take his own life. His family, including his son Campbell, were deeply emotional upon hearing the findings.

Campbell, along with Hatton’s father, friend, and manager, attended the inquest seeking answers about the unexpected death. The coroner emphasized Hatton’s strong family bond and his eagerness for future plans, dispelling any indications of suicidal intent.

Describing Hatton as a devoted family man, the coroner acknowledged the profound loss his family was facing. She expressed sympathy for the family’s pain, highlighting Hatton’s enduring love for his family despite his successful boxing career.

Post-mortem results revealed Hatton’s blood alcohol level was significantly over the legal limit, with traces of cocaine and cannabis in his system. While no visible brain abnormalities were observed, microscopic examination revealed signs of CTE.

Statements from Hatton’s loved ones portrayed a man who was making plans for the future and appeared content in the days leading up to his death. His daughters, profoundly affected by his passing, continue to cope with the void left by his absence.

Authorities confirmed that there were no signs of foul play at the scene, and no evidence suggesting Hatton had intended to take his own life was found. Hatton’s mental health struggles post-boxing, coupled with substance abuse issues, were highlighted by his son as contributing factors to his declining health.

Despite Hatton’s apparent optimism and future plans, his tragic death remains a mystery, leaving his family and fans grappling with the loss of a beloved sports icon.
