Boxing Legend Ricky Hatton’s Heartbreaking Final Moments

The mother of renowned boxing legend Ricky Hatton shared a heartbreaking account of her son’s final embrace, describing how he nearly crushed her ribs with his hug. Speaking at his inquest, she revealed their last meeting just two days before his passing, where Ricky expressed intentions of a comeback to the boxing ring and selling his home, yet she noticed a sorrow in his eyes.

She mentioned that Ricky had plans to visit his parents upon his return from Dubai to discuss financial matters with his father. Tragically, the 46-year-old athlete passed away on September 14, only months before his anticipated return to boxing.

During the inquest, it was disclosed that there were signs of past cocaine use in Ricky’s system, although no evidence suggested recent intake before his demise. Additionally, traces of cannabinoids were found. His body was discovered by his close friend and manager, Paul Speak, revealing signs of alcohol intoxication well beyond the legal limit.

Ricky Hatton openly shared his struggles with mental health, particularly after facing setbacks in his boxing career, notably after his defeat to Manny Pacquiao in 2009. His challenges began earlier with a loss to Floyd Mayweather in 2007, causing significant emotional turmoil. Despite a victory against Juan Lazcano, subsequent defeats and personal conflicts led to a downward spiral.

Acknowledging his darkest moments, Hatton admitted to contemplating suicide and battling overwhelming despair. Seeking professional help following the birth of his daughter, he acknowledged the importance of mental health support and the stigma surrounding it.

Family members highlighted that despite his struggles, Hatton seemed optimistic in the weeks before his passing, excited about future plans, including a potential comeback fight in Dubai. His ex-partner noted his positive outlook for their daughters and his enthusiasm for the sport.

Known as “The Hitman,” Hatton’s sudden death on September 14 shocked the boxing community. Authorities confirmed no suspicious circumstances surrounding his demise, and tributes poured in from fans, loved ones, and fellow boxers.

In a heartfelt statement, Ricky’s mother expressed the profound impact of their final meeting and the weight of his intentions, painting a poignant picture of their last interaction. His son, Cambell, described Ricky as a dedicated individual, both in and out of the ring, highlighting his fearless spirit and generosity while acknowledging his mental health struggles.

Campbell emphasized that Ricky appeared to be in a better mental state than in recent years, reflecting on his father’s positive mindset and unwavering dedication to his passions.
