“Experts Identify Key Signs for Early Pancreatic Cancer Detection”

People are advised to be vigilant for the symptoms of a deadly cancer that is notoriously difficult to detect. The disease is often diagnosed at advanced stages due to its subtle manifestations.

Experts highlight two primary indicators of pancreatic cancer that could aid in early detection: jaundice (yellowing of the skin) and gastrointestinal bleeding. Additionally, researchers suggest that increased thirst and dark yellow urine could also serve as unrecognized warning signs of the disease.

Dr. Weiqi Liao, a data scientist at the University of Oxford, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in improving pancreatic cancer survival rates. Both patients and healthcare providers must be familiar with the associated symptoms to facilitate timely diagnosis.

Dr. Pippa Corrie, chair of the pancreatic workstream at the NCRI Upper Gastrointestinal Group, stressed the significance of recognizing early pancreatic cancer symptoms for enhanced patient outcomes. Encouraging communication between patients and GPs, she emphasized the need for prompt medical consultation upon noticing any concerning signs.

Recent research has identified a range of symptoms associated with pancreatic cancer, which is more prevalent in individuals above 75 years old and rare among those under 40, according to the NHS. Lifestyle modifications such as reducing red and processed meat consumption, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking, and limiting alcohol intake can lower the risk of developing this type of cancer.
