Police are reportedly considering the use of anti-corruption laws in the investigation of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor following his recent arrest. Sources suggest that authorities are also looking into allegations of sex trafficking against the former prince, who was apprehended on his birthday last month on suspicion of misconduct in public office and later released pending further inquiry.
This development stems from information found in the extensive files released by the US Department of Justice, hinting at possible breaches of confidentiality during Andrew’s time as the UK’s trade envoy in association with a convicted sex offender. Despite these claims, Andrew has consistently maintained his innocence.
The Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, disclosed that British law enforcement is pushing for access to unredacted files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s connections in the UK. This request aims to explore various sexual allegations for potential criminal investigation, highlighting the necessity for unaltered evidence to progress with inquiries.
Commenting on the matter, Sir Mark emphasized the importance of impartial investigations into individuals, regardless of their status, and stressed the application of the law without bias. Additionally, there are reports indicating that police are contemplating the utilization of outdated corruption statutes in the probe concerning Andrew, with considerations on his official capacity and potential misconduct during his duties.
Former head of Met Royalty policing, Dai Davie, underscored the importance of exploring all legal avenues available to authorities, not only focusing on Andrew but also on others possibly linked to the alleged activities. Thames Valley Police, leading the misconduct investigation, stated that updates would be limited to official press releases.
Nine police forces are currently examining Jeffrey Epstein’s ties to the UK, including his connections to the embattled royal. Andrew, consistently denying any wrongdoing, is in the process of settling into his new residence at Marsh Farm after residing at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate. Renovations at his new home, including heightened security measures, are underway.
This development coincides with Andrew’s relocation plans following his departure from Royal Lodge, awaiting the completion of necessary upgrades for his new abode.
