Former Boxing Champion Ricky Hatton’s Death Under Renewed Investigation

Ricky Hatton’s well-being was affirmed by his family and close acquaintances just prior to his untimely demise. A renewed investigation is set to commence on Friday, marking six months since the discovery of the body of the former boxing champion.

Following an initial examination into Hatton’s passing in October 2025, the preliminary cause of death was identified as ‘hanging.’ The comprehensive inquiry is scheduled for March 20, 2026.

Paul Speak, a long-standing friend and manager, found Hatton unresponsive at his residence in Gee Cross, Hyde. Speak, who was supposed to travel with the ex-boxer to Dubai, notified the Greater Manchester Police of the incident.

Authorities confirmed no signs of foul play at the time and passed the case to the coroner. It was revealed during the hearing that the 46-year-old was last seen by family members two days before his discovery, appearing to be in good health.

Although he was expected to return home, Hatton failed to attend a planned event the next day. Speak recounted the moment he found Hatton, expressing a mix of emotions at the sight.

At the initial inquest on October 16, senior coroner Alison Mutch stated they are awaiting the final determination of the cause of death. It remains uncertain if any of Hatton’s family members will be present at the upcoming full inquest in March.

The funeral of the renowned boxer took place on October 19 at Manchester Cathedral, drawing thousands of mourners to pay their respects to Hatton. Notable figures such as Liam Gallagher, Tyson Fury, Tony Bellew, and Wayne Rooney were among those in attendance.

During the service, Sky Sports boxing commentator Adam Smith delivered a eulogy, highlighting Hatton as a boxing icon and a hero of the working class.
