“Tragic River Accident: Missing Man, Teen’s Body Found”

Police are still scouring a river following the discovery of a young girl’s body after a tragic accident on Tuesday. An 18-year-old man, suspected to be the driver of a car that went into the River Nene, is currently missing. The incident occurred at North Brink in Wisbech St Mary around 8:20 pm and involved a total of five individuals, all between the ages of 16 and 18.

A specialized dive team recovered the body of a 16-year-old girl, believed to have been seated in the rear of the vehicle, on Wednesday afternoon. The family of the deceased girl is receiving assistance from dedicated police family liaison officers.

The remaining three occupants were able to escape from the submerged vehicle and were transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. Two individuals, a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy, have been released from the hospital, while another 16-year-old girl is currently receiving medical care.

North Brink, which was temporarily closed by emergency services during the incident, has since been reopened. Detective Chief Inspector Garry Webb, from the road policing unit, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and emphasized the ongoing efforts to locate the missing young man. Search teams are still at the scene, accompanied by detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit who are engaging with the survivors and affected families.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the accident, observed the vehicle prior to the crash, or possesses dashcam footage to contact the police with reference to incident 515 of 17 March. Reports can be made by calling 101 for those without internet access.
