“Call the Midwife” Star Helen George Reveals ADHDSecret

Actress Helen George from the popular show “Call the Midwife” recently disclosed that she has ADHD during a podcast episode. She shared that she had been managing the condition privately for a few years but felt it was time to open up about it. In a conversation with Dr. Mine Conkbayir and her husband, comedian Paul Whitehouse, Helen talked about her journey with ADHD, which she was diagnosed with a few years ago.

The actress mentioned that the realization came after the birth of her second child. She explained that the challenges of parenting brought to light the aspects of ADHD that she had been dealing with. It was a male friend who had ADHD that made her recognize the similarities in their experiences, prompting her to seek a diagnosis.

Helen expressed that she had never considered having ADHD before the diagnosis, attributing any struggles to the nature of being an actress. She highlighted the skills that ADHD can bring, especially in the acting profession. Regarding her feelings about ADHD now, she admitted to still navigating through understanding the condition and considering medication as a potential aid.

Reflecting on her journey of self-discovery, Helen emphasized the importance of finding what works best for oneself to be able to fulfill roles effectively, such as motherhood. She acknowledged the need for support and mentioned contemplating medication to help manage ADHD symptoms in the face of daily responsibilities.

Helen, who was previously married to actor Oliver Boot before dating her “Call the Midwife” co-star Jack Ashton, is now in a relationship with real estate consultant Dan Innes. Known for her role as Trixie in “Call the Midwife,” Helen has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and in stage productions.

ADHD, a prevalent neurodevelopmental condition, is characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can impact daily functioning. The podcast “I’m ADHD! No You’re Not” featuring Helen marks the beginning of its fifth season, with previous episodes hosting various notable guests.
