Galatasaray has officially announced that Noa Lang will undergo surgery in Liverpool following a severe injury sustained during their match at Anfield. Lang was injured in the final minutes of the game after colliding with the advertising boards, resulting in a visible thumb injury that required immediate medical attention. He was stretchered off the field amid visible blood, and medical staff from both teams rushed to provide assistance and bandage his thumb to stop the bleeding.
Lang, who came on as a substitute for Victor Osimhen, had to receive oxygen as he exited the pitch. The match ended in a 4-0 defeat for Galatasaray at Anfield, leading to their elimination from the Champions League as they failed to maintain their initial 1-0 lead from the Istanbul game. The club confirmed Lang’s surgery, with Osimhen also at risk of requiring a similar treatment.
Following halftime checks, it was determined that Osimhen had suffered an arm injury during the match, resulting in a fracture in his right forearm that required casting. Lang, on the other hand, sustained a serious cut to his thumb, necessitating surgery in Liverpool with the involvement of the medical team.
During the match, Osimhen displayed frustration after an apparent challenge by Liverpool players during his treatment for the injury, which ultimately led to his substitution with Lang entering the field.
Commentator Ally McCoist, covering the match for TNT Sports, described Lang’s injury as significant and concerning, noting a visible reaction from onlookers. Galatasaray’s head coach, Okan Buruk, criticized referee Szymon Marciniak, labeling him as one of the worst officials they had encountered, attributing the loss and psychological impact to Osimhen’s injury.
The team expressed disappointment with the officiating and their performance, citing a lack of confidence and questionable decisions during the match. The club emphasized the need for better refereeing standards and expressed concern over the injuries sustained by their players.
