A man was taken into custody following an event near a shopping center that required the presence of a bomb disposal unit. The occurrence, which occurred near the Liffey Valley shopping center bus terminal on Wednesday evening, prompted the intervention of various emergency services, including the gardai and Dublin Fire Brigade.
The man, in his 30s, was apprehended under public order laws and held at a Dublin police station. The Defence Forces reported that bomb disposal specialists were dispatched to deal with a “suspect device found in the Liffey Valley area of Co Dublin” at approximately 8:20 pm.
Upon examination, the bomb experts confirmed that the device was not functional, and the area was handed back to the police. The bomb disposal operation was completed by 10 pm. A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana verified that they had reacted to an occurrence at a retail park in the Clondalkin region around 7:20 pm.
According to the spokesperson, a perimeter was established around the location, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Defence Forces was called in. After determining that the device posed no threat, the perimeter was removed. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Dublin Fire Brigade had previously declared that traffic restrictions were enforced around Liffey Valley, near the bus terminal, as firefighter/paramedics from Tallaght and Blanchardstown ambulance responded to the situation.
