Broadcaster Danny Kelly Reveals Throat Cancer Diagnosis

Renowned broadcaster Danny Kelly has disclosed that he has received a diagnosis of throat cancer. Aged 69, Kelly shared this heartbreaking news during a talkSPORT show on Wednesday afternoon.

Having been a fixture at talkSPORT since 2007, Kelly will be taking a hiatus to undergo treatment with the hope of a full recovery. Encouraging his audience to prioritize their health, Kelly revealed that he initially visited a doctor six weeks ago due to suspected acid reflux.

Speaking candidly to his predominantly male audience, Kelly admitted to the severity of his condition, stating that what he thought was acid reflux turned out to be cancer of the esophagus. Despite the grim news, he reassured listeners that the cancer had not spread and that medical professionals were optimistic about his treatment prospects.

Acknowledging the challenging journey ahead, Kelly outlined the upcoming regimen of treatment involving medication, surgery, and further medication. While acknowledging that there will be periods when he won’t be able to broadcast, he expressed gratitude for the support from talkSPORT and his intention to return to the airwaves.

Highlighting the importance of early medical intervention, Kelly emphasized the significance of seeking professional help if something feels amiss in one’s body. As he prepares to focus on his health, Kelly requested prayers, well wishes, and positive energy from his audience.

Expressing his appreciation for the listeners and the talkSPORT team, Kelly signed off with hope for a speedy recovery and a return to his broadcasting duties.
