Giovanni Pernice is gearing up to share his perspective on the Strictly Come Dancing controversy nearly two years after his departure from the BBC program. The 35-year-old professional dancer, once a fan favorite on the show, faced accusations from actress Amanda Abbington regarding his behavior during rehearsals, leading to his exit from the popular Saturday night show.
Amanda Abbington alleged that Giovanni was harsh and unkind during their rehearsal sessions, claims vehemently denied by the Italian dancer. Following an investigation, the BBC issued an apology to Amanda, acknowledging some instances of bullying and harassment by Giovanni while dismissing the more serious allegations of physical aggression.
Subsequently, Giovanni was absent from the 2024 show lineup. Now, almost two years later, he has announced the upcoming release of his memoir, hinting at revelations about his time on Strictly that have not been shared before.
In a video teasing the memoir’s release in August this year, Giovanni expressed his excitement to delve into his life story, spanning from childhood to his experiences on Strictly and beyond. Titled “Gio My Story,” the book is now available for pre-order.
On Instagram, Giovanni shared his anticipation for the book’s release, inviting fans to explore the journey that led him from Sicily to the Strictly Come Dancing stage, highlighting the highs and challenges along the way. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received and emphasized his pride in finally sharing his story.
Meanwhile, Amanda reaffirmed her previous statements about Giovanni during an appearance on the White Wine Question Time podcast last year. She clarified that her intention was not to harm Giovanni but to address the unfair treatment she felt she received during rehearsals, emphasizing the importance of calling out unacceptable behavior.
