“E. coli Nightmare: Boy’s Kidney Crisis on Egypt Vacation”

A Worcestershire family’s vacation in Egypt took a frightening turn when their seven-year-old son fell seriously ill and was diagnosed with a life-threatening kidney condition. Alexandra and Michael Bradshaw were on holiday with their children at a 4.5-star hotel in Hurghada when their son, Finn, began displaying symptoms of illness.

Initially thought to be a minor stomach issue, Finn’s condition worsened dramatically during the return flight home, marked by persistent vomiting. Upon arriving back in the UK, Finn’s health continued to deteriorate, leading to jaundice. He was swiftly admitted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where tests revealed acute kidney failure, prompting an urgent transfer to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for specialized nephrology care.

Finn underwent immediate dialysis line insertion in surgery. Doctors identified Finn’s condition as Haemolytic-Uraemic Syndrome (HUS), a rare yet severe ailment often associated with E. coli infections and a leading cause of acute kidney failure in children. Emergency dialysis was essential, and Finn remained hospitalized for several weeks.

Due to his illness, Finn missed multiple weeks of school and upon his return, could only attend gradually due to lingering health issues. Both Alexandra and Michael, who are nurses, had to take time off work to care for their son.

The family has enlisted the services of expert international serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to probe the source of Finn’s E. coli infection during their £2,400 holiday. Jatinder Paul, the lawyer representing Finn and his family, emphasized the seriousness of HUS, its potential long-term effects, and the need for specialized support and rehabilitation for Finn.

During their stay at the resort in November 2025, Alexandra and Michael noted poor hygiene practices at the hotel restaurant, including uncovered food left out for extended periods while animals roamed freely. Upon returning home, both Alexandra and Finn fell ill, leading to Finn’s hospitalization on 20 November 2025.

The Bradshaw family expressed deep distress over Finn’s ordeal, with his parents describing the harrowing experience and the shock of learning about HUS. Finn’s illness has profoundly impacted the family, overshadowing what was meant to be a joyful holiday.

Months later, the family is still grappling with the physical and emotional aftermath of Finn’s illness. They are grateful for the medical care provided but seek answers regarding the circumstances that led to Finn’s illness during their holiday.
