“FIFA Partners with YouTube to Live Stream World Cup 2026 Matches”

FIFA has revealed an agreement to broadcast the beginning of each World Cup 2026 match live on YouTube. Official broadcasters will have the privilege to showcase the initial 10 minutes of games on the platform, aiming to engage younger audiences.

In the UK, the BBC and ITV will televise the tournament on free-to-air channels. Concurrently, as part of the deal with YouTube, these broadcasters can also live stream the first 10 minutes of their matches on the video-sharing site.

Furthermore, the authorized broadcasters will have the opportunity to present a selection of complete World Cup 2026 matches on YouTube. This move by FIFA is intended to make the start of games accessible to a broader global viewership, potentially leading them to switch to traditional TV channels for the full match coverage.

FIFA’s strategy focuses on attracting a younger demographic that consumes football content through digital platforms rather than traditional TV. To engage this audience, FIFA will grant unique access to a group of content creators during the World Cup.

Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom announced FIFA’s significant broadcast deal, emphasizing the collaboration with YouTube as a Preferred Platform for the World Cup 2026. This partnership aims to enhance engagement with global fans and offer unprecedented opportunities to media partners and creators.

While the BBC and ITV will continue broadcasting games live on TV and their streaming services, a specific number of matches will also be broadcast live and in full on their respective YouTube channels. Additionally, FIFA’s broadcast partners will be able to upload extended highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, and short clips on their YouTube channels.

Justin Connolly, YouTube’s global head of media and sports, expressed the platform’s commitment to providing a fan-centric and interactive sports entertainment experience for a worldwide audience. This partnership is designed to offer premium content and exclusive access to fans, catering to both hardcore and casual enthusiasts.

The World Cup 2026 will kick off with the match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11, featuring 48 teams competing in a total of 104 games, culminating in the final on July 19.
