Berlin Airport Strike Grounds 445 Flights

Hundreds of flights have been canceled as a major airport was compelled to suspend all incoming and outgoing flights, resulting in travel chaos for numerous British travelers.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport has been brought to a standstill due to labor strikes, resulting in 445 flights being grounded and passengers facing disorder.

The strike was initiated by Verdi service employees demanding higher wages, impacting around 2,000 workers. The primary German air hub has come to a standstill, affecting up to 57,000 passengers amidst the strikes.

British Airways, easyJet, and Ryanair are among the UK airlines impacted by the shutdown, causing disruptions for travelers scheduled to depart from London, Manchester, Bristol, and Edinburgh.

A total of 23 flights from the UK to Berlin have been disrupted, leaving many travelers stranded in the midst of the airport turmoil.

In a released statement, the airport announced, “On Wednesday, 18 March 2026, no scheduled passenger flights will be operating at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The airport operator has notified its partners, including airlines, ground handling services, security firms, and local businesses.”

Affected passengers are advised to contact their airlines or tour operators for rebooking options and alternative travel arrangements.

Despite airlines offering alternative routes or refunds to affected passengers, the disruptions may persist as a crucial negotiation deadline between unions and management approaches on March 25.

Airport executive Aletta von Massenbach criticized the “disproportionate” strike action, stating, “We view a warning strike as excessive – particularly in a situation already strained by the conflict in Iran.”
