The Irish Guards received a royal visit from the Princess of Wales to celebrate St Patrick’s Day at Mons Barracks in Aldershot. Princess Kate, the Colonel of the regiment, distributed traditional shamrock sprigs to officers and guardsmen. She also ensured that the regiment’s Irish Wolfhound mascot, Seamus, received his share of the shamrock. Kate interacted with the young junior cadets, known as the ‘Mini Micks,’ from Northern Ireland, brightening the future of the soldiers.
During the event, the Princess presented long service and good conduct medals, highlighting the Irish Guards’ bravery and versatility in frontline combat and specialized operations involving various equipment like machine guns, anti-tank missiles, mortars, and reconnaissance missions.
The day was filled with ceremonial moments, capturing the Princess’s radiant smile as she engaged with the 1st Battalion Irish Guards and other attendees. Dressed in green for the occasion, Kate’s presence added a touch of royal charm to the festive atmosphere at Mons Barracks.
