Police intervened on a plane to apprehend a man following the exposure of his disturbing mistreatment. Identified as Callum Coady, he was taken into custody at Manchester Airport. Coady’s coercive behavior towards his partner, Daisy Martin, included isolating her by making her delete social media accounts, sever connections with loved ones, and dictating her attire.
The abusive conduct persisted for over a year until Coady, aged 27, was filmed physically and verbally assaulting his girlfriend at Manchester Airport in August 2023. This incident led to his arrest while onboard the aircraft. Video footage released by GMP captured the moment of his apprehension as Coady expressed shock and frustration upon being informed that he was being removed from the flight due to threats of violence.
During the arrest, Coady questioned the necessity of the cuffs and protested the disruption to his travel plans. Coady, residing in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, confessed to coercive control and received a suspended 16-week prison sentence with a 12-month probation, a five-year restraining order, and a £200 victim compensation requirement at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.
Daisy Martin’s courage in reporting the abuse was commended. Coady’s aggressive outburst at Manchester Airport on August 19, 2023, which included hurling a drink at Daisy and issuing death threats, was captured on CCTV. Following Daisy’s disclosure of the ongoing abuse to the authorities, it was identified as coercive and controlling behavior, a realization that Daisy had not fully grasped.
In her statement, Daisy reflected on the profound impact of the ordeal on her life, expressing struggles with trust and self-worth. She revealed the lasting effects on her mental well-being, including heightened anxiety and difficulty in forming relationships. Daisy emphasized the need for support for those facing similar situations.
