As fans eagerly anticipate the return of Doctor Who on Christmas screens, exciting news has surfaced that a beloved star will be revisiting his role as the Tenth Doctor.
David Tennant is set to reprise his original portrayal of the Time Lord in 15 new Big Finish audio adventures. The adventures will be rolled out with twelve releases every two months starting from the summer of 2027, while the final three will be part of a new box set featuring the Tenth Doctor teaming up with some of his other versions, with the release date of the box set yet to be confirmed.
Expressing his delight at returning as the Tenth Doctor, Tennant commented, “Big Finish makes it dangerously easy – you turn up, have a lovely time, and suddenly you’ve saved the universe again.”
Nicholas Briggs, the creative director at Big Finish, also shared his excitement, stating, “We’re always eager for David to return. He is a highly sought-after actor, and sometimes scheduling conflicts make it challenging for him to join us in the studio.” He added, “But we’re always prepared with fresh stories, and now that he’s back, we’re enjoying every moment of it.”
Briggs teased, “Get ready for an exhilarating journey through these new adventures. They are fast-paced, humorous, and thrilling audio dramas filled with surprises from the very first episode.”
The initial 12-part series of The Tenth Doctor Adventures is now available for pre-order at £9.99 per story for digital downloads or £13.99 for a collector’s edition CD on www.bigfinish.com. A complete series multibuy package is also open for pre-order at £102 (digital download) or £132 (digital download and collector’s edition CD).
Simultaneously, fans can pre-order the box set containing the final three episodes for £19.99 (digital download) or £29.99 (digital download and collector’s edition CD).
While Tennant is not currently in the lineup for the TV series, having last appeared as the Fourteenth Doctor in the 60th anniversary specials in 2023, his former co-star from the Tenth Doctor era, Billie Piper, is confirmed to return.
The latest episode saw Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor regenerate into Piper – raising speculation about whether she will be the Doctor or if there are other surprises in store.
