“Deputy Head Banned After Naked Walk Incident”

A deputy head of department at Hetton Academy, Andrew Peacock, was found walking naked near the River Tyne in Hebburn, which led to a caution for a public order offense. Following this incident, he faced four allegations at a Teaching Regulation Agency hearing in February, resulting in an indefinite ban from teaching.

Peacock, who worked as a math teacher and deputy head at Hetton Academy from April 2013 until his resignation in May 2024, was witnessed naked in a residential area on November 11, 2023. Reports indicated that he was seen by passersby walking in the area while unclothed, prompting concerns and a call to the police.

During the investigation, Peacock admitted to being a naturist and explained that he had been delivering food as part of his second job when he decided to take a brief naked walk by the river. He clarified that he had made efforts to ensure he was not visible to the public before quickly returning to his vehicle upon hearing voices.

Despite his assertions, the TRA panel determined that Peacock’s actions were misconduct of a serious nature that fell below professional standards, leading to his prohibition from teaching indefinitely. The panel highlighted concerns about his integrity, honesty, and the potential impact of his conduct on the public’s perception of teachers. Peacock is ineligible to teach in any educational institution in England until at least February 16, 2028.
