“Dubai Drone Attack Survivors Detained Over Photos”

Three individuals who survived a terrifying drone attack on a luxury high-rise building in Dubai have reportedly been detained for privately sharing photos of the incident. The residents, located in the Creek Harbour area, sent images to their families to confirm their safety after the explosion that caused a significant hole and fire in the skyscraper.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, located approximately 10km from the international airport, to extinguish the blaze that occurred during the night. Following the attack, local authorities visited the three survivors, requesting access to their phones.

Radha Stirling, the CEO of Detained in Dubai, expressed concern over the situation, stating that people’s natural response in such traumatic events is to inform their loved ones of their safety. She warned expats and tourists in the United Arab Emirates about the strict cybercrime laws in the country and the potential consequences of sharing photos related to sensitive incidents.

This incident coincides with increased scrutiny on individuals sharing images of Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Dubai. The city has experienced various drone attacks, including those targeting the international airport. An incident involving a British tourist facing possible jail time for recording Iranian missile activity highlights the strict laws against filming or sharing conflict-related content in the UAE.

Stirling emphasized the severity of the charges individuals could face under UAE cybercrime laws and the potential implications, urging caution during times of tension. The vague yet serious charges could result in lengthy prison sentences and other legal repercussions, underscoring the importance of understanding and abiding by local laws in the UAE.
